5 Address from the VYSO Faculty
Dr. Rick Dorfer, Conductor of the Junior Orchestra, is invited to present the address on behalf of the VYSO Faculty and in lieu of Artistic Director and Senior Orchestra Conductor, Roger Cole who was unable to join this General Meeting. Roger Cole summarizes the excellent positive impressions from the 2015-16 season with a number of different workshops, collaborations and outstanding performances. The up-coming season will include the 150-Canada concert at the Chan Centre with a number of original compositions and contributions. Roger Cole thanked Janna Sailor who will be taking a year of absence in 2016 – 2017. He points out that the purchase of the St-James Community Square by the City of Vancouver has brought an important element of stability to all St-James users. He concludes on a note of thanks to the board, staff and families.
Susan Neale echoes Roger Cole’s comments on ending the 86th season of the VYSO and reiterates the thanks to members, staff, volunteers and supporters. She points out a number of up-coming organizational changes: Nicki Stieda is leaving as
Intermediate Orchestra String Assistant and stepping up to the Board of Directors; a new String Assistant, Domagoj Ivanovic, will join the Intermediate Orchestra as String Assistant.

Susan Neale thanks the out-going orchestra members: Ramin Nazaradeh (absent), Anita Wong, George Kondor, Bianca Scheirer (absent) and Jeff Shon (absent). As already mentioned by Roger Cole, Janna Sailor will be leaving the VYSO for a year
to pursue other endeavours; the administration will contact her again in February 2017 as to her plans to return the following season. In the meantime, Rick Dorfer has agreed to act as Debut Conductor for the 2016 – 2017 season. Finally, Holly Littleford’s role and title will change from Orchestra Manager to General Director, to allow her to assume more oversight of the artistic planning process.
In conclusion, Susan Neale presents the Charlotte Epp Award Distinguished Service
Award to Julia Tan and Laura Cottle.

In response to a question from the public about this being her last season as the President, Susan explains the transition planning. The new incoming Vice-President (Bettina Cenerelli) will be taking over as President at the end of the 2016-17 season.
Both, Susan Neale and Judith Fraser invite all new Board members to attend as many concerts as possible in 2016 – 2017, to show their support to the young musicians, the conductors and the VYSO families.

The General Meeting concludes at 8:02 pm.
