Volunteers are vital to the health and success of the VYSO, a non-profit community organization. The VYSO relies on the generous volunteer participation of members and their families throughout the concert season. Volunteering can be immensely rewarding — wonderful friendships are forged and parent volunteers set a positive example for their musicians.
VYSO asks for a 10-hour annual commitment from each family, which can be fulfilled by musicians and/or family members. More details will be available in September.
If a VYSO family is unable to volunteer or chooses not to engage as a volunteer, they will be asked to pay $200 in lieu of volunteering before the first day of rehearsal. Payment can be made online together with the tuition fee, or by cheque payable to the VYSO. The cheque will include “In lieu of volunteering” on the memo line along with the name and orchestra level of the registered VYSO musician. Funds from “in lieu of volunteering” cheques will be used by the VYSO to hire assistance, where volunteer forces are deficient.
