The VYSO presents approximately 6 to 9 concerts each year. Led by acclaimed professional Conductors, Dr. Jonathan Girard, Dr. Richard Dorfer, Nadia Petriw and Jin Zhang, performances take place in both community settings and professional venues.

Sophie Dansereau
Contrabassoonist and Assistant Principal Bassoonist of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Sophie obtained the “Prix avec Grande Distinction à l’unanimité” in bassoon and chamber music from the Conservatoire de Musique du Québec as well as a Masters of Music from Yale University.  Sophie has performed with the Auckland Philharmonic in New Zealand, the New World Symphony, the National Arts Center and l’Orchestre symphonique de Québec, as well as several major music festivals around the world.  Sophie has been awarded numerous prizes in major national and international competitions and was featured as a soloist on several occasions with the APO and the VSO, as featured bassoonist and contrabassoonist.  A sought after bassoonist in chamber music, she is a founding member of the AdMare wind quintet.  Sophie serves on faculty of the Vancouver Academy of Music, VSO School of Music and Douglas College and UBC.

We encourage you to join us for a concert! Admission to most of our concerts is by donation (the minimum suggested donation is $10 per person). For special event concerts, ticket information will be available here on our website.

Notable Guest Artists

VYSO students have the privilege of being inspired and guided by the work of guest musical artists, including notable conductors, composers and renowned performers in the freelance musical community of Metro Vancouver. Our guest artists are affiliated with: Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver Bach Choir, Vancouver Opera, Vancouver Academy of Music, University of British Columbia, University of Victoria, Borealis String Quartet, Infinitus Trio, The Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, and Victoria Symphony.
